Benefits of BKC Membership
Morning and Evening BKC Yoga Classes
Yoga classes are given by the Berkshire Kripalu Community for all BKC members on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m, Thursday evenings at 6 p.m., and Sunday afternoons at 4:15 p.m. – all at Kripalu. There are morning classes at Kripalu at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
As of July 1st, 2008, there is a $5 cash payment for each yoga class taken by a BKC member. Most BKC members now pay with yoga class coupons. As a member, you can purchase ten coupons for $36. In effect, this gives you one free yoga class out of ten. Always wear your BKC nametag to class. OK to take it off while in the class.
You can take any program in the Kripalu catalog while commuting from your home. You pay a $45 daily commuter fee, plus the tuition cost of the program. This entitles you to breakfast, lunch and dinner at Kripalu, plus daily guest programs such as yoga, and the use of Kripalu’s facilities. You can purchase a day guest pass for $75, which entitles you to full guest privileges at Kripalu for one day, including lunch and dinner.
Kripalu has designated Wednesdays as BKC community days. On Wednesdays all BKC members can purchase lunch and/or dinner for $10. On Wednesdays BKC members can purchase a day guest pass for $50.
Kripalu’s noon DansKinetics class is free to all BKC members, Sunday through Friday. (Off limits to us on Saturday’s, when it is filled with in-house guests.) At Healing Arts, BKC members receive a discount of $5 on a short session, and $10 on a long session. This applies Mondays through Fridays, except on holidays – from September through June.
Communication with members
We publish a monthly newsletter, the BKC Spirit, which is available on our web site, or by mail upon request. The newsletter gives the location of BKC yoga classes for the month, the location of the month’s BKC potluck supper and articles by BKC members. (Almost all evening activities at Kripalu are free to BKC members. You must wear your BKC nametag to gain admittance.)
Whenever there is a last-minute change in the location of a BKC yoga class, we send out an e-mail with complete information. Please be sure that we have your current e-mail address. Send it (once, only) to bkc@rnetworx.com
There is a BKC bulletin board in the mailroom corridor at Kripalu. Look at the schedule of BKC yoga classes on the bulletin board to determine the location of each BKC yoga class at Kripalu.
Answers to your questions
For help with BKC questions or problems, contact Erich and Jeanne Kes at bkc@rnetworx.com or tel. 413-698-2053. Keep in mind that the BKC is run by volunteers, who appreciate the same respect that you do.
Additional Benefits for BKC Seva Members
BKC members who do at least eight hours a month of seva (volunteer work) are recognized as seva members. As a seva member, you can attend almost all of Kripalu’s daytime Retreat and Renewal activities at no cost. They include guest yoga classes, (NOT the 4:15 p.m. Saturday yoga classes), noontime activities, morning and afternoon workshops, exercise room, sauna and whirlpool. Always wear your BKC nametag, as this is the way Kripalu’s staff knows that you belong in an activity. BKC seva members attending Retreat and Renewal activities are expected to voluntarily leave any class that fills up. This is to assure that we do not prevent any in-house Kripalu guests from taking the class.
BKC seva members who perform their seva at Kripalu can purchase one meal at Kripalu for $4 on each day that they do seva.
For information and guidance on becoming a BKC seva member, please contact our seva coordinator; Gregg Day gregg061488@yahoo.com tel. 413-698-2695
